The Waif of the Cynthia by Verne and Laurie is one of their best works. The story revolves around a boy Erik who was adopted by Dr. Schwaryencrona. He promised the boys guardians to provide him with better and proper education. As they are out on the quest to search for his real parents, they encounter many risks and adventures that are amazingly depicted. Exhilarating!
The Plumed Serpent is a 1926 novel by D. H. Lawrence. Set in Mexico during the Mexican Revolution, it was begun when the author was living at what is now the D. H. Lawrence Ranch near Taos in the U.S. state of New Mexico in 1924, accompanied by his wife Frieda and artist Dorothy Brett. Lawrence wanted to call the book "Quetzalcoatl", after the Aztec god of that name, but his publisher Knopf found the name strange and insisted on "The Plumed Serpent", a title Lawrence disliked.

Tämän kirjan suurin arvo ei ole sen taiteellisessa esitystavassa eikä laajoissa, hyödyllisissä tiedoissa, joita lukija siitä ammentaa, vaan sen todenperäisyydessä. Siinä kerrotaan asioita, jotka todella ovat tapahtuneet. Totta kyllä, että niitä on hieman väritetty, mutta tekijä ei ole ottanut lisäpalkkiota vaivoistaan. George Harris ja Montmorency eivät ole runollisia ihannekuvia, vaan lihasta ja verestä luotuja olentoja — semminkin George, joka painaa kaksitoista puntaa.
一名《花柳深情传》，四卷三十二回，成书于清光绪乙未年（1895年），六年后即光绪辛丑年（1901年）上海书局石印本行世。小说末尾明确指出作者题写的书名为《醒世新编》。而《花柳深情传》之名盖书商为迎合读者心理而妄改之名，袭才子佳人之俗套，殊乖作者本意。故今之校点本恢复原名。小说通过浙东魏家的兴衰深刻反映了时文、缠足、鸦片对个人、家庭和社会的巨大危害。这部小说的价值不但在于真实的再现了时文、缠足、鸦片对于中国近代社会的巨大危害，而且更是在多个方面对后来出现的“新小说”产生了深刻的影响。如《醒世新编》中的现实主义创作精神、心理描写与议论手法的大量运用和“新民”形象等都对“新小说”产生了深刻影响。
