光绪廿九（1903）年上海大同书局出版，十四回。作者为孙希孟，署“藤谷古香”，伪托日文小说译出。本书写近代史上奇人沈北山事。光绪二十五（1899）年，常熟名士沈北山冒死上疏请西太后交出政权，杀荣禄、刚毅、李莲英三凶，一时轰动全国。小说中荀北山欲上万言书，请归政于皇上，诛三凶以谢天下，携奏折请大学士徐桐代奏，被徐桐逐出。亲朋故旧唯恐祸发株连，酿成大狱，派人将他押送还乡。途经天津，北山将折稿投送《国闻报》发表，引起一场轩然大波，被捕下狱。末回荀北山获释，与友人行酒令点将，历数当时维新党与革命党的风云人物，首点孙文，次点章炳麟，评云：“革命何尝不是堂堂正正的旗，但民智不开，民力不足，民德不修，这三样没有，决不能革命。”最终以“轰天雷”比拟荀北山作结。

A Child's History of England is a book by Charles Dickens. It first appeared in serial form in Household Words, running from 25 January 1851 to 10 December 1853. Dickens also published the work in book form in three volumes: the first volume on 20 December 1851, the second on 25 December 1852 and the third on 24 December 1853. Although the volumes were published in December, each was postdated the following year. Dickens dedicated the book to "My own dear children, whom I hope it may help, bye and bye, to read with interest larger and better books on the same subject". The history covered the period between 50 BC and 1689, ending with a chapter summarising events from then until the accession of Queen Victoria.

Voyage au centre de la Terre est un roman d'aventures, écrit en 1864 par Jules Verne. Il fut publié en édition originale in-18 le 25 novembre 1864, puis en grand in-octavo le 13 mai 1867. Le texte de 1867 comporte deux chapitres de plus (45 au lieu de 43) que celui de 1864. Voyage au centre de la Terre est le deuxième roman d'aventure que publie Jules Verne après Cinq semaines en ballon paru en 1863. Le roman traite de la découverte d'un manuscrit runique ancien par un savant allemand qui, avec son neveu et leur guide, entreprennent un voyage vers le centre de la Terre en y entrant par un volcan islandais éteint, le Sneffels (c'est-à-dire le Snæfellsjökull).

Une ville flottante est un roman de Jules Verne, paru en 1871. Le roman est d'abord publié dans le Journal des Débats du 9 août au 6 septembre 1870, puis mis en vente, sous forme de volume, le 17 juillet 1871, chez Hetzel. La ville flottante, c'est le Great Eastern, un énorme navire faisant la traversée Liverpool-New York, à bord duquel se trouvent plusieurs milliers de personnes, avec leurs caractères différents. Une vraie société. Le personnage principal du récit en est le narrateur.
